About Newton Presbytery Mission
Each year, the congregations of the Presbyterian Church (USA) commit a portion of the gifts given by their members to further the mission work of Jesus Christ. Presbyterian mission dollars and prayers reach out to their local communities with food, compassion, and community. Churches come together in Newton Presbytery to help struggling churches with upkeep and pastoral support. The 63 member churches of our presbytery also have a global connection with Nairobi Presbytery in Kenya, that teaches us new ways of faithful living and community. Our presbytery offers resources and training to its church leaders in stewardship growth, Christian education, and theological study.

The gifts of Presbyterians reach even farther to support mission projects of the Synod of the Northeast, embracing people from New Jersey to Maine and New York. The Synod provides grants and loans to new and redeveloping churches, training for church leaders, inner city ministry support, and rural community mission.

Something you might not know is that our church has nearly 1,000 mission workers around the world - some long term, some working only a few months between college and a new job. Our national church assists people in natural and man-made disasters, guides and trains leaders for ministry, produces church school curricula, Presbyterian Women resources, and so much more!!

Anyone with a heart for mission is urged to contact the Office of Newton Presbytery.

Peacemaking

Have you seen the report "Turn Mourning into Dancing - A Policy Statement on Domestic Violence"? It has important implications for congregations and for sessions. The Peacemaking Committee is forming a task force to assist congregations in carrying out the recommendations of the 2001 General Assembly contained in the report. Let Jim Chestnutt know if you would like to join that task force.

We are studying a report called "The Rule of Power or the Rule of Law" by the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research, and the Lawyer's Committee on Nuclear Policy. This report is an assessment of US policies and actions regarding security-related treaties. If you would like a summary of the report, and would like to work with us on it, contact Rev. David Muyskens.
