Carpenter's Helpers

The Carpenter's Helpers
were formed to "be ready for every good work" (Titus 3:1). It is a cooperative mission endeavor among the churches in Newton Presbytery, and is part of the Hunger and Housing Needs Committee.

The dual purposes of The Carpenter's Helpers are to seek out and perform home repair projects for the elderly, handicapped, or those in dire financial straits within the bounds of the Presbytery; and to provide "hands-on" mission opportunities for congregations and for fellowship with others.

During the time that The Carpenter's Helpers has been active, we have built ramps, painted, spackled, sided, made closets, caulked, replaced windows, performed yard and cemetary cleanups, and we have performed many other types of building and repair projects.

If you know of a situation for which The Carpenter's Helpers would be of assistance, or if you are a do-it-yourselfer who would like to do for others, please contact The Carpenter's Helpers. We need all types of talent!!

Our Long Range Goal
is to have a week-long work camp within the bounds of the Presbytery, as well as four weekend projects. We envision that the workers participating in these camps would be housed and fed by the local church while they work with members of that church or its friends.

Workers
The Carpenter's Helpers are seeking to identify the do-it-yourselfers within our churches that are willing to work. We need all types of talent: carpenters, spacklers, painters, electricians, plumbers, laborers. Retirees are especially invited! Cooks to feed hungry workers are also welcome, as are those with trucks to haul materials.

This is a great activity for youth groups as well!

Work to be Done
The Board of The Carpenter's Helpers requests that pastors and church members identify home repair needs in their local churches, and communicate those needs to us. Please contact The Carpenter's Helpers for an application form.

Resources
Churches and individuals in the Presbytery have been generous to this mission endeavor. We now have enough seed money to cover current projects. However, as new projects are identified and work scheduled, we will need funding for supplies, permits, insurance, and so on. You can make contributions to Newton Presbytery, earmarked for The Carpenter's Helpers, and mailed to the Presbytery office.

We are also seeking corporate or business sponsors who would be willing to donate supplies, or to sell them to us at cost. If you can help, or know of someone who can help, please contact The Carpenter's Helpers, or the Presbytery Office. Thank you!
